3 Steps to More Self-Confidence

Did you know that self-confidence is probably the single most important ingredient for success?

I’ll give you a quick story to illustrate this: When they hire soccer players at the professional level, they look at things like experience, (how many games they have played and how well they have done), they look at skill, (actual ball skills), and they look at self-confidence, which they can measure with a test.

Do you know which one they hire on? Well interestingly enough, they hire on selfconfidence, and I’ll tell you why. Even if you have all the skill in the world (let’s talk about soccer players), ball skills or great experience in playing many, many games, but lack self-confidence, there is no way that you are going to be a better player than someone who is full of self-confidence and just needs to practice to develop more skill and more experience. So when it comes to self-confidence, it’s one of the most important things we need to not only instil in our children, to make them grow up as successful adults, but we need to work on changing our own self-confidence, and my friends I am here to tell you that you absolutely can.

So here are three tips:

The first one is the ‘Power Pose’.

Let’s talk about public speaking. If you stood in the power pose before you did anything,  whether it’s to do public speaking or going into a meeting, whatever you need it for, if you stood in the power pose like Wonderwoman, for just two minutes, the body produces 25 per cent more testosterone, without thinking any thoughts. So use your body when you are speaking. Open your body, don’t stand closed,  stand open and use the power pose. It absolutely changes your self-confidence. The mind believes that you are confident if you stand this way and then it starts producing chemicals which change your physiology.

The second thing is Visualise. This is the single most powerful way to change your self- confidence, and it is underestimated. So go into meditation, project yourself onto your mental screen doing whatever it is you want to do with self-confidence and see yourself behaving like that with all the self-confidence in the world. If you do that the subconscious mind cannot tell the difference between imagination and reality,  so when you go and do it you will be astounded as to how much self-confidence you have.

The third one is what we can do in the outside world, which is a little bit different for many people.  It’s to see the value in every person and intentionally add value to them. When we intentionally add value to people, it is the fastest way to increase our own self-confidence.

So, my friends, these are the three tips to grow your confidence:

  • Use the Power Pose
  • Visualise yourself being more confident
  • Intentionally add value to people.
